Today is my 45th birthday, and my goal is to run 500 miles by Christmas and 1000 before my next birthday.
I have been running regularly for about a year, with very little mileage from mid-September through December. My total mileage in the past year is only about 300. Been averaging about 10 miles/week since January.
I figure I'll have to keep it at 20 miles/week from here on. Will be a stretch - did 19 miles last week and am on track for 20 this (calendar) week.
On the good side, the shin splints that have bothered me pretty much constantly for the past year, and really cut down both my speed and mileage, seem to have finally gone away. I recently started using Springbak inserts - maybe that did the trick.
