Week Minus 2 - Distance (Bailed after 3 miles)

Garmin Link
3.06 miles @8:05 pace
Target: 10 miles @8:00

Yesterday morning was still feeling too sore to run - right foot especially. By late afternoon thought I was feeling better, and after a Saturday spent trying to catch up on things in the office, a run seemed like a good idea.

It turned out that I was still hurting, and after three miles of pushing it, decided to bail out rather than risk making it worse. After getting home, the right foot has continued to be especially tender and swollen. Couldn't walk on it barefoot. I think this might be plantar fascitis, although that is usually on the heel and mine is on the balls of the feet. The three middle toes and balls of feet are sensitive to any pressure. Couldn't be gout, could it? ;-)

I've been noticing this - although not nearly as bad as it was last night - for a few weeks, and it does seem to respond well to rest, and it doesn't usually hurt while running after the first mile or two, so I don't think it will keep me from the marathon next week.

I'll ask your dad if it might be gout. He had several bouts of what was diagnosed as gout.

You sure have your trials. I hope you can make it to the marathon.

Gout is usually just the big toe. Doctors claimed I had gout in years past but I think it was just the bunion forming.

You can ask Hallie about plantar fascitis but I think it affected more the arch or heel but definitely not the toes. She got an orthotic which seems to have solved it for her.

I know you have your heart set on that marathon Sun but I don't see any way you could make it. It would be tough enough if you well feeling well and injury free.

Yes, my plantar fasciitis was in the arch. I have tight calf muscles which pull the achillies and the tendon running in the center of the foot. I had to take ibuprofen and stretch no less than 3 times a day (standing calf stretches, roll my foot on tennins ball).

Isn't gout from not hydrating and peeing enough?

Did you ever make Nick's chili?

We enjoyed Nick's chili while the CO Warnocks were here. Delicious - I'll email with details.
